- Protestantism (Approx. 19%–37%): Protestant denominations have seen explosive growth in recent decades, particularly Baptist (the largest group), Pentecostal, and Seventh-day Adventist churches.

- Syncretism: Many Haitian Catholics practice a form of “Catholic-Vodou syncretism,” where Catholic saints are often identified with Vodou spirits (lwa). It is a common local saying that “Haitians are 70% Catholic, 30% Protestant, and 100% Vodou”.
- Protestant Stance: In contrast to the more fluid Catholic approach, Haitian Protestant and Evangelical churches generally take a hardline stance, denouncing Vodou as “diabolical” or “demonic”.
Role in Society and Current Challenges
- Social Stability: Churches often act as a “parallel state,” providing essential services like education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid in areas where government presence is weak.
- Political Mediation: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Haiti has frequently been called upon to mediate during times of political crisis.
- Security Concerns: In recent years, religious leaders and congregants have been targets of the country’s rising gang violence, with frequent reports of kidnappings for ransom and attacks on church property.
