MESSAGE FROM ROBERT & SANDRINA JURJEVICH

It was to Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia-Herzegovina, we first went way, way back in 1987 and lived up through the first year of the Yugoslav civil war. Bosnia-Herzegovina suffered greatly, where over 200,000 citizens were killed. Nearly thirty years later, the scars of the war still cover the land and define the lives of so many families and individuals. The city of Sarajevo in 1987 had 600,000 residents; today there are nearly 400,000.

The spiritual climate remains challenging. Predominate ethnic groups are Bosniak (mostly Muslim), Croat (mostly Roman Catholic) and Serb (mostly Eastern Orthodox). Around 30 Protestant/Evangelical churches exit with the total number of active believers estimated at 400-500. To put it into perspective, Bosnia-Herzegovina is the same geographical size as the state of North Carolina in the USA. It is nearly 50% greater in size than either The Netherlands or Switzerland. With only around 400-500 active Protestant/Evangelical believers out of a population of nearly 3.8 million, Bosnia-Herzegovina truly is a harvest field waiting for the reaper. Who will be the sower, who will be the reaper? Thankfully, it is God who gives the increase, for He is the Lord of the harvest, and both the sower and the reaper can rejoice together in the rewards of the harvest.
